Graffiti On A Van — Oil and ink on canvas
I was walking on a beautiful spring day in London when I saw this scene: a perfect urban tableau, sunlight cutting across brickwork, life carrying on — and right in the middle of it, a white van with a single rude word sprayed across the side. I laughed out loud. I knew immediately I had to paint it. This is London in one glance: beauty and reality, elegance and irreverence, all coexisting without apology.
About the artist's process
I'm a London-based painter with an official clinical diagnosis of REM intrusion — a neurological condition in which dream-state imagery and visual perception bleed into waking consciousness. Unlike artists who paint from memory of dreams, I paint what I am actually seeing as it happens, in real time. My diagnosis is documented and verified; this isn't metaphor. The condition means my perception of the world carries the quality of dream — heightened, slightly unreal, charged with meaning. Even a van with graffiti becomes something worth stopping for.
My work sits at the intersection of direct observation and altered perception. Everything I paint has passed through that filter.
