Lost
Indian ink on paper.
Indian ink is unforgiving - every mark is final, every line commits. It is exactly the right medium for a painting about being lost, because there is no going back, no correction, no path that unmakes itself. The image emerged from one of Ryan Louder's waking dream states: a figure, a landscape, a feeling of being somewhere recognisable but entirely unknown.
Painted in Indian ink - a medium Ryan Louder returns to for its power to hold raw emotion without softening it.
Ryan Louder is a London-based painter with a clinically verified neurological condition - narcolepsy with non-REM intrusion - that causes waking dream states in which vivid, fully-formed visions are experienced while conscious. These paintings are not imagined; they are observed and recorded in real time as each vision unfolds. Every work carries a provenance that is medically documented and historically rare: the direct visual testimony of a dreaming, waking mind.
Original ink painting on paper. One of a kind. Certificate of authenticity included.
